March recap

Time flies yet again, and it’s been another month since my last post. I think I will have to schedule blogging time so that I get it done at least once a week… It’s been a busy month, as usual, moving forward with different projects. So here follows a little recap of what’s been going on.

We did a photo shoot with Hong Faux at Västerås flygmuseum, taking some really wild pictures of the band in different kinds of vintage flight wear. They’re going to be pretty awesome once they’ve all been edited. If you want to see how we looked we’ve got a little album teaser trailer on YouTube. We also landed an opening slot for Graveyard at Kägelbanan on 24 March. Unfortunately I couldn’t partake due to other engagements, so my colleague Fredrik from Dexter Jones’ Circus Orchestra played in my stead. The place was absolutely packed so we got some good exposure to the right kind of audience. Hopefully it leads to more gigs of the same caliber.

Speaking of gigs, we’ve got a small tour coming up. I’ve got my work cut out for me since I’ll be doing two shows per night, playing bass with Hong Faux as well as guitar with Nutmeg. We’re doing three consecutive shows, starting with Fritz’s Corner (Lilla hotellbaren) in Stockholm on April 6, Scharinska in Umeå the next day and after that down to The Merry Can in Örnsköldsvik. The gig in Stockholm also serves as the release party for “Space” – Nutmeg’s first single from the new album Basement Riot. My own label Pristine Music is taking care of the digital release, and Iconic Noise (who released the first Nutmeg album) is putting out a 7″ vinyl with an exclusive B-side.

Check out the trailer for the single:

The album’s finished now too. Magnus Lindberg (the drummer of Cult of Luna) took care of the mastering and it sounds absolutely fantastic. Right now we’re looking for a good way to go about releasing the album so it doesn’t disappear in the big music void like the first one did.

The Genuine Fakes are back in the rehearsal studio arranging songs for the next album. We’re not focusing on any live performances this spring, but hopefully we’re going to be able to do some touring in the fall. We’ve been trying to get some tour dates in Spain and we still want to make it happen. Rock Indiana Records just put the album out in Spain so hopefully it’ll raise some attention and pave the way a bit. The album’s gotten consistently positive reviews so we’re pretty psyched about that. We’re also looking for a way to get over to the US to do some shows, but we don’t know really where to start. If you’ve got any ideas, feel free to mail in your tips!

Dexter Jones are going on yet another trip to the Balkan in April. After the Hong Faux/Nutmeg trip I’m home for a day and then we’re off for another week of rock n’ roll! It’s going to be great to go back there – the Balkan part of the last tour was the good part of tour :). For more info, check out the band page on Facebook.

Over and out!
